5 Days Safari Selous with Hot Springs + Excursions | 3 Full-Day Game Drives

Selous Game Reserve (Nyerere National Park)

This Fly-In Safari from Zanzibar is designed for guests that wish to spend a litte bit more time to explore the vast Selous Game Reserve. This Safari package not only includes 3 full-day Game Drives, but also a guided Bushwalk as well as a Boat Safari on the Rufjii River (the largest river in Tanzania).

You will be visiting the Selous Game Reserve, a remarkable opportunity to immerse yourself in the pristine wilderness of Africa, encounter extraordinary wildlife, and support conservation efforts in one of the continent’s most iconic reserves. With approximately 50,000 square kilometers it is the largest protected conservation area in Africa. Established in 1922 and it was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982 due to its ecological importance.

You will be staying in the Africa Safari Selous Lodge for 4 nights, where you enjoy a 49m² Banda Bungalow that provides an authentic African atmosphere with welcoming and friendly staff.

Day 1:

Go on short but scenic flight from Zanzibar to the Selous Game Reserve. By choosing a fly-in Safari, you’ll save precious time that would have been spent on long drives, allowing you to immerse yourself in the wilderness sooner. Plan your trip today and prepare to be mesmerized by the untamed magic of the Selous Game Reserve!

After arrival you will start with your first full day game drive! The vast Selous protected area boasts an impressive array of wildlife, including the renowned Big Five – elephants, lions, leopards, rhinoceros, and buffalo. As you venture through the reserve, keep your eyes peeled for these iconic creatures as they go about their daily activities. In addition to the Big Five, the Selous is also home to giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, hippos, crocodiles, and an abundance of bird species

Day 2:

Todays full day game drive brings you to an unexpected oasis nestled within the Selous Game Reserve. Surrounded by lush vegetation and towering trees, the natural hot springs (maji moto in Kiswahili) provide a natural sanctuary of relaxation and tranquility. These thermal springs are formed when underground water is heated by geothermal activity and rises to the surface, creating pools of warm water. On the way to the Hot Springs you will pass the Grave of Frederic Courtney Selous, a naturalist, explorer, hunter, soldier and the namesake of this nature reserve. Frederic Selous was killed in 1917, during World War One near the Beho Beho Hills.

Day 3:

After breakfast you will have the incredible opportunity to observe wildlife up close and personal with a Bushwalk. Our local guides will ensure your safety while enhancing your understanding of the wildlife you encounter. Learn about animal tracks, identify fascinating bird species, and discover the intricate web of life that sustains the reserve. Keep a keen eye out for grazing antelopes, playful monkeys swinging through the trees, and a myriad of birdlife fluttering overhead.

After lunch break in the Africa Safari Selous Lodge you will go on your next adventure: a boat Safari on the famous Rufiji River (the largest and longest river in Tanzania)! From the tranquility of the river, you’ll have the perfect vantage point to capture incredible photographs. The reflective waters create stunning mirror-like images, adding a unique dimension to your shots. Whether it’s a close-up of a bathing elephant or a panoramic landscape of the riverine forests, the Selous Game Reserve’s boat safari presents endless opportunities to capture the beauty and magic of Africa.

Day 4:

Today another full day game drive awaits you! Your expert guide will provide fascinating insights into the behaviors, habitats, and survival techniques of the animals you encounter. Learn about the delicate balance of nature and the interconnectedness of the ecosystem as you witness predator-prey interactions, marvel at the ingenious adaptations of wildlife, and enjoy the bio diversity of the Selous Game Reserve. From tracking elusive predators to observing the gentle giants of the savannah, your game drive will be filled with moments of wonder and excitement.

Day 5:

Time to say goodbye to this fantastic nature reserve! After breakfast in the Africa Safari Selous Lodge, your return back to civilisation with your early morning flight to Zanzibar Airport and a transfer back to your beach hotel.
