• A rare rhino in the crater (caldera) of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area

2 Days Safari | Ngorongoro Crater

Tanzania Northern Circuit

This is the perfect last-minute package for exploring the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, located in northern Tanzania, a UNESCO world heritage site. Encompassing more than 8000 km², the conservation area is named after the Ngorongoro Crater – a massive volcanic caldera that forms the centerpiece of this landscape.

After an early transfer from your beach hotel you will fly from Zanzibar to Arusha airport. Here your Safari driver guide brings you to the famous Ngorongoro Area you will drive up to the rim of the famous crater and then descend into this volcanic caldera, a self-contained ecosystem with an astounding concentration of wildlife. Within its walls, a vast array of animals coexist, including elephants, lions, cheetahs, hyenas, wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles.

Your will stay in the lovely Africa Safari Lake Manyara, where you sleep in a fully furnished comfort safari tent with a private bathroom. The Lodge marks the border to the Lake Manyara park – expect to see a lot of animals grazing in the gardens.

Day 1:

An early transfer from your beach hotel, a short flight from the Zanzibar Archipelago, and you are already in Arusha city, the ‘Safari capital’ of Tanzania. Your guide will take you to the Ngorongoro Conservation area, where you start with your descend toward the famous Ngorongoro crater. One of the unique features of this caldera is its dense population of predators, making it one of the best places in Africa to witness predator-prey interactions. The crater’s flat, open plains offer excellent visibility, providing Safari guests with incredible opportunities to observe the Big Five (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhinoceros).

You will be accompanied by our expert Safari Guides. They will lead you to a wide range of animal species as well as diverse landscapes, including grassy plains, savannah woodlands, and highland forests. In addition to its rich wildlife, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area holds scientific significance, with evidence of human habitation dating back over two million years. The region has been home to various indigenous tribes, including the Maasai people, who continue to live and graze their cattle within the area. Their coexistence with wildlife and preservation of their traditional way of life adds a cultural dimension to the conservation area, making it an enriching experience for travelers seeking a deeper understanding of the region’s heritage.

Day 2:

After an early breakfast transfer back to Arusha airport for you return flight to Zanzibar.

Africa Safari Lake Manyara Lodge

Africa Safari Lake Manyara is located directly on the border of the Lake Manyara National Park. The lodge grounds are part of a Game Controlled Area (GCA) – expect to see a lot of animals staying permanently in the area. These include zebras, wilderbeests, different types of monkeys and of course many bird species. The gardens are dominated by large yellow bark acacias (also known as ‘fever trees’ or Vachellia xanthophloea) that provide shade and shelter for the cheeky vervet monkeys.

Neighbouring the large and comfortable bar / lounge there is a nice swimming pool with sun loungers and umbrellas. It offers truly magnificent views of Manyara lake and the surrounding area. Farther towards the lake you will find the restaurant with equally exciting views. For your own security, it is recommended not to walk alone during the night in the lodge premises. The staff will assign you a Maasai askari (watchman), just in case a bad tempered big cat decides to pay a visit.

You will stay in a Safari Comfort tent. These accommodations are spacious, and comfortable, having exterior canvas walls, a concrete floor and a permanent bathroom. Watch the zebras grazing from your very own private terrace, equipped with comfortable chairs. The spacious 60m² tent is furnished with a king-sized bed and a single bed. Another single bed can be added on request. You will find a comfortable seating area in the room as well as plenty of storage space to make you feel at home. The accommodation has a semi permanent bathroom with an European toilet, washbasin and walk-in shower.
