For the next few days you will be staying in the Africa Safari Selous Lodge, where you enjoy a 49m² Banda Bungalow that provides a calm and authentic atmosphere with original African architecture.

Day 1:

Your trip starts with an early transfer from your beach hotel to Zanzibar Airport you hop on a short scenic flight to the gates of the Selous Game Reserve. You will start with a day full of activities, to explore the surroundings and the great Rufiji River.

Are you ready to immerse yourself in the sights, sounds, and scents of the African wilderness? Lace up your boots and go on a captivating Bushwalk, where you’ll experience the untamed beauty of nature up close and personal. Our local guides and their passion for the environment will enrich your bushwalk experience. They will share fascinating insights about the local ecology, animal behavior, and the intricate interconnectedness of the Selous ecosystem.

After lunch break your next adventure awaits you: Step aboard a comfortable, specially designed barge and embark on a Boat Safari along the iconic Rufiji River, the lifeblood of the Selous Game Reserve. As you glide along its meandering course, be prepared to witness a myriad of wildlife congregating at the water’s edge. From elephants bathing and drinking to hippos wallowing in the shallows and crocodiles basking in the sun, each bend of the river holds the promise of exciting wildlife encounters.

Day 2:

Today you will experience the thrill of a classic full day Game Drive in the Majestic Selous Game Reserve! This vast protected area is renowned for its incredible biodiversity, making each game drive a thrilling opportunity to encounter Africa’s iconic wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for sightings of majestic elephants gracefully moving through the bush, prides of lions lounging under the shade of acacia trees, stealthy leopards blending seamlessly into the landscape, and herds of buffalo grazing peacefully. Witness the natural dynamics of predator-prey interactions and be captivated by the beauty and power of these magnificent animals in their natural habitat.

Day 3:

After breakfast you begin your game drive towards Maji Moto (hot springs), a natural phenomenon found within the Selous Game Reserve. This attraction refers to a collection of hot springs that create a small oasis within the Reserve. The thermal springs are formed when underground water is heated by geothermal activity and rises to the surface, creating pools of warm water. These hot springs offer a stark contrast to the surrounding landscape. Amidst the dry savannah and arid terrain, the lush green vegetation surrounding the hot springs provides a haven for wildlife seeking water and relief from the heat. Due to the presence of water, the area become a magnet for a variety of wildlife. Animals, both big and small, are often drawn to these natural water sources, offering excellent opportunities for wildlife sightings and photography.

On the way to the Hot Springs one will pass the Grave of Frederic Courtney Selous, a naturalist, explorer, hunter and soldier, who was killed in 1917, during World War One near the Beho Beho Hills. During the entire Safari one will be able to watch animals as well of course.

Day 4:

After breakfast in the Africa Safari Selous Lodge, you return back to the air strip for your early morning flight to Zanzibar Airport, followed by a transfer back to your beach resort.
