Tanzania Northern Circuit

This 4 Days Safari fly-in package from Zanzibar includes Game Drives in the Ngorongoro Conservation area, Lake Manyara & Tarangire National Parks as well as an extra day for leisure or optional activities (i.e. bicycle tour, farm or local market visit etc.)

After your domestic flight (about ~1h) to Arusha, you will drive towards Tarangire for your first national park Game Drive. Expect to see a lot of elephants among the giant Baobab trees in this park. Another Safari day is reserved for a visit of the incredible crater of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the world’s largest inactive, intact and unfilled volcanic caldera. Your last adventure before returning to Zanzibar will be in the Lake Manyara Park, that lends its name from an alkaline lake that dominates its landscape.

Your accommodation for 3 nights will be in the Africa Safari Lake Manyara Lodge. Here you stay in a furnished en-suite tent. The premises of the lodge border a national park (Lake Manyara), therefore wild animals can be spotted frequently.

Day 1:

After an early breakfast a driver will pick you up from your beach hotel and bring you to Zanzibar airport for a short domestic flight to Arusha city. Your Safari guide for the next days will welcome you and drive you to Tarangire National Park for your first Game Drive.

This national park is dominated by the Tarangire river, a source of life for many animals during the dry season. The park boasts a rich and diverse environment that attracts an wildlife all year-round. The park is famous for its giant Baobab Trees, that even dwarf the many elephants in this area.

Day 2:

This itnerary offers you an extra free day for optional activies or just a day of leisure and free time to enjoy the unique surroings of the Great Rift Valley area.

Day 3:

Today you will pay a visit to the famous Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Hertiage Site, where you can enjoy a game drive in Ngorongoro crater. This caldera is the main feature of the Ngorongoro area. The crater, which formed when a large volcano exploded and collapsed on itself two to three million years ago, is 600+ metres deep and its floor covers 260 km². The original volcano range is estimated to be almost 6000 metres high.

The region has been home to various indigenous tribes, including the Maasai people, who continue to live and graze their cattle within the area, a noteable difference to the traditional national parks where human activity is limited to tourism. Their coexistence with wildlife and preservation of their traditional way of life adds a cultural dimension to the conservation area, making it an enriching experience for travelers seeking a deeper understanding of the region’s heritage.

Day 4:

The last day of this Safari package brings is dedicated to Lake Manyara National Park, famous for its tree-climbing lions, a very rare behavior. These predators are known to relax in the branches of tall trees, as their status in the animal kingdom befits them.

Despite its relatively small size compared to other Tanzanian national parks, Lake Manyara is incredibly diverse in terms of flora and fauna. The park encompasses different ecosystems, including the alkaline lake itself, floodplains, tropical forests as well as acacia woodlands. These diverse vegetation zones provide habitats for many different animal species.

After leaving the park you will be driven back to Arusha city airport, for the domestic return flight to Zanzibar.

Africa Safari Lake Manyara Lodge

Africa Safari Lake Manyara is located directly on the border of the Lake Manyara National Park. The lodge grounds are part of a Game Controlled Area (GCA) – expect to see a lot of animals staying permanently in the area. These include zebras, wilderbeests, different types of monkeys and of course many bird species. The gardens are dominated by large yellow bark acacias (also known as ‘fever trees’ or Vachellia xanthophloea) that provide shade and shelter for the cheeky vervet monkeys.

Neighbouring the large and comfortable bar / lounge there is a nice swimming pool with sun loungers and umbrellas. It offers truly magnificent views of Manyara lake and the surrounding area. Farther towards the lake you will find the restaurant with equally exciting views. For your own security, it is recommended not to walk alone during the night in the lodge premises. The staff will assign you a Maasai askari (watchman), just in case a bad tempered big cat decides to pay a visit.

You will stay in a Safari Comfort tent. These accommodations are spacious, and comfortable, having exterior canvas walls, a concrete floor and a permanent bathroom. Watch the zebras grazing from your very own private terrace, equipped with comfortable chairs. The spacious 60m² tent is furnished with a king-sized bed and a single bed. Another single bed can be added on request. You will find a comfortable seating area in the room as well as plenty of storage space to make you feel at home. The accommodation has a semi permanent bathroom with an European toilet, washbasin and walk-in shower.
