3 Days Safari | Tarangire & Ngorongoro Crater & Lake Manyara

Tanzania Northern Circuit

With this 3 Days Safari fly-in package from Zanzibar you can explore the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and its famous crater, along with the Tarangire and Lake Manyara National Parks.

After the transfer to Zanzibar airport, you hop on a short domestic flight (about ~1h) to Arusha City airport. Here your Safari starts with a drive towards Tarangire National Park where you can expect to see a large population of elephants in their natural habitat. The next day is reserved for another highlight, a game drive in the famous caldera of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, home of the Big Five. Day 3 brings you to Lake Manyara National Park, a hidden gem among the country’s renowned wildlife sanctuaries.

You will sleep for 2 nights in the Africa Safari Lake Manyara Lodge, where you stay in a fully furnished comfort tents with private bathrooms. Because the premises of your accommodation borders a national park (Lake Manyara), there a frequent animal visitors like zebras and monkeys.

Day 1:

After a short domestic flight from Zanzibar, you arrrive in Arusha and drive towards Tarangire National Park for your first Game Drive on the mainland. The national park is dominated by the Tarangire river, that offers water even in dry season. The combination of fresh water and different habitats (savannah, baobab trees, acacia woodlands, swamps) creates an incredibly rich and varied environment that attracts an abundance of wildlife all year-round. The park is famous for its giant Baobab Trees, that dwarf even the many mighty elephants in this area.

Because of the lower number of visitors, Tarangire makes an excellent destination for those seeking a more intimate Safari experience.

Day 2:

On your second day Ngorongoro Conservation area awaits you, where you can enjoy a game drive in Ngorongoro crater. This volcanic caldera is almost a ‘natural zoo’, because of the steep walls and the high elevation, there is enough rain and therefore food for the majority of the animals to stay in the crater even during dry season.

The region has been home to various indigenous tribes, including the Maasai people, who continue to live and graze their cattle within the area, a noteable difference to the traditional national parks where human activity is limited to tourism. Their coexistence with wildlife and preservation of their traditional way of life adds a cultural dimension to the conservation area, making it an enriching experience for travelers seeking a deeper understanding of the region’s heritage.

Day 3:

After an early breakfast you will visit Lake Manyara National Park, renowned for its tree-climbing lions, a rare behavior seen in only a few places in Africa. These impressive predators are known to relax high in the branches of acacia trees. The park is home to an incredible 400+ bird species, making it a true haven for bird watching. Aside from the famous flamingos, visitors can spot various other waterbirds, birds of prey and colorful forest-dwelling species like the silvery-cheeked hornbill.

After this exciting adventure you drive back to Arusha airport for you return flight (about 1,5h) to Zanzibar. Here you will be picked up by our driver and taken back to your beach resort where you can enjoy the rest of your holiday.

Africa Safari Lake Manyara Lodge

Africa Safari Lake Manyara is located directly on the border of the Lake Manyara National Park. The lodge grounds are part of a Game Controlled Area (GCA) – expect to see a lot of animals staying permanently in the area. These include zebras, wilderbeests, different types of monkeys and of course many bird species. The gardens are dominated by large yellow bark acacias (also known as ‘fever trees’ or Vachellia xanthophloea) that provide shade and shelter for the cheeky vervet monkeys.

Neighbouring the large and comfortable bar / lounge there is a nice swimming pool with sun loungers and umbrellas. It offers truly magnificent views of Manyara lake and the surrounding area. Farther towards the lake you will find the restaurant with equally exciting views. For your own security, it is recommended not to walk alone during the night in the lodge premises. The staff will assign you a Maasai askari (watchman), just in case a bad tempered big cat decides to pay a visit.

You will stay in a Safari Comfort tent. These accommodations are spacious, and comfortable, having exterior canvas walls, a concrete floor and a permanent bathroom. Watch the zebras grazing from your very own private terrace, equipped with comfortable chairs. The spacious 60m² tent is furnished with a king-sized bed and a single bed.
